Thanks to the Wypsa's production of Jesus Christ Superstar we've made excellent progress on the building and improvement works at the centre during May 2011. There's nothing like a deadline to make things happen!

Here are some highlights:

  • Three phase electrics to support theatrical lighting in the church and halls
(Funds needed for own lighting system)
  • Fire alarm system
  • Wheelchair access to the church from the front car park
  • Wheelchair accessible toilet in the halls
  • New utilities in the toilets in the halls - new flooring to follow in June
  • Made safe and good steps to church
  • New access door from rear of halls
  • New stage in the church following repositioning of choir stalls
  • Purchase of scaffolding tower to facilitate high level works and productions
  • External wheelchair toilet at rear of church
  • External toilets (x2) at front of church
(Funds needed to build new toilet and kitchen block for church)
  • This work has been funded by the buidling works grant from Wycombe District Council

The Jesus Christ Superstar production last week was excellent, our exit surveys scored it consistently 10 out of 10! Well done to the board, crew and cast of Wyspas for launching the centre in such grand style. Please take alook at the photos to see how the production and the building worked in perfect harmony.

The Wyspas production and the feedback we received further confirms the potential the centre has to become a really striking building and local community facility. However this will require signifcant commitment to fundraising and revenue generation. We therefore urge you, your friends, family, communities, businesses and organisations to get involved and do what you can to help us make the centre something for which the district can be proud.

If you feel you can help with fundraising please contact us on 01494 883163 and ask for Carrie or email info@arts4every1.com. To get involved as a volunteer please click here to find out more >>

Many thanks to the people who came along last Saturday to help start the painting in the halls. We made great progress. The kitchen wall (Elaine, Amanda, David, Dave, Ruth, Richard, Pedro), back wall and radiators (Lesley and Geoff) have been cleaned and painted and looking much better for it. It's amazing what can be done in a short space of time by committed people! (I don't mean in the mad sense, although sometimes feels like it!)

Please take a look at some of the pictures of our handy work at this link

We are having another painting session this Saturday so please come along in your dirty clothes (you know what I mean). We have to carry on the work behind the partition started by Daniel and Barry - good job chaps! We also will be doing the reception porch and might even look in the loos! Just a look mind!

A big project this week will be starting on the other wall in the Halls. We have delivery of 8 8x4 boards and some 2x1s. Andy from Chiltern Studios has volunteered to mastermind the wood working hear to get a nice run, suitable for presenting artworks and member materials. If you are a woodworker your help will be appreciated. Once this is up the halls will be in much better shape, assumming you don't look upwards that is! We need some black curtain material urgently too so please pass the message on!

LET'S PARTY - SOCIAL EVENT We have a change of plan for the evening do on Saturday27th November. The event will be FREE and donations of any amount will be welcome to help the cause! We just need people to attend this event and help us spread the word about the centre. Appearing on the night will be the Vitae Drummers, Wycombe's very own African drumming group, also appearing will be Bottom Line, the group from Marlow Bottom Acoustic Club, (great name guys!) and a steelpan group from Wycombe Steel Orchestra. We will have lighting and a PA system for some nice background music and who know's if the spirit moves us all there might be some dancing... not from me! Bring your own refreshments.

SHOWCASE: During the day on 27th November we urge members to bring along their wares to promote their art, craft or group. There will be table tops available on a first come, first served basis. Set-up Friday from 2pm or from 9am on the Saturday. IMPORTANT This will be a PR opportunity for paid-up members to promote themselves. We will be shooting a video during the day and holding interviews and photo sessions with members. These will be put on website and is just one of the many benefits of becoming a paid up member of Arts4every1.

Remember that on the 10th, 11th and 12th of December artsmart will be holding an Exhibition and Sale of Fine Art. Great Christmas gift opportunities so please come along to the Halls. See the events section for more details.

We are looking to hold a raffle, or perhaps an auction at some of these forthcoming events so if you would like to donate a prize, a painting, some tickets, a bottle please drop it into the centre, Tuesday/Thursday evening from 6.30pm or call 07767 383914

Volunteer UPDATE. At the launch evening back in September we were delighted with the response to our call for volunteers. We will be having regular volunteer meeting sessions on Thursdays every week in the Halls. A priority for us is to set-up a group that can focus on developing our centre portfolio for meeting the needs of our younger community. From music to theatre, from art to enterprise we need you help in getting this moving. PLEASE NOTE: We are holding a meeting of Centre Volunteers at the Open Day on the 27th November at 12pm

BUCKS OPEN STUDIOS: We are getting alot of interest from local Bucks artists wishing us to become a dedicated studio space for BOS in 2011. If you would like to be involved or considered please come along to the Open Day on the 27th November. We are having a meeting at 2pm for artists to discuss the project.

Arts4every1 MERCHANDISE - Logo print over the road from us have kindly offered to provide a range of Arts4every1 branded merchandise at great prices. From polo shirts to hoodies, from mugs to pens these can be sold to help raise money for the funds!

OPEN ART EXHIBITION A GREAT SUCCESS After 8 busy days the Open Arts Exhibition closed it's doors on Sunday the 17th May. The exhibition, which is part of the Wycombe Arts Festival is usually held in the Guildhall but this year was held in the Old Miss Selfridge shop in Eden. With over 2000 visitors the exhibtion attracted more than fours times the usual number of attendees. This years exhibtion featured co-ordinated displays from many of Wycombe's visual arts groups including West Wycombe Art Group, Hughenden Art Group, Penn Art Group, Olive Branch, Studio 18 and Bucks Potters. Arts4every1, the community arts network for Wycombe District managed the open art space and hosted a successful reception evening on Thursday. This featured performances by Bucks New University who showcased a scene from their forthcoming production of a Midsummer Night's Dream, Shed @ The Park who performed some enchanting songs and Sarah-Jayne Ebdon who gave the audience an early preview of Living Wycombe, her new public artwork at the back of House of Fraser.
