WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
The issues of wheelchair access and toilets in the new centre have been a priority concern for us since the building was mooted over 6 years ago
The good news is there is funding to put solutions in place but they won’t be implemented by the 17th September
We have decided to hold the main meeting on the 17th September in the Church Halls. This means you will be able to park directly outside the building and access on the flat with a wheelchair.
If you are a wheelchar user please forward by email your registration number and we will book a car space for you if you would like to attend (mike.watson@soundsolutions.co.uk). You would be most welcome. As our name implies access for all is crucial.
Unfortunately we do not have a disabled toilet in the halls yet. Please bear in mind the meeting is on the 17th September and we get the keys on the 14th September so works before then are impossible.
At some point during the meeting we will be inviting attendees to walk through the church site. The only way possible for a wheelchair user to access the church will be by driving into West End Street. There is a flat path from the pavement into the rear of the church. We will be pleased to help facilitate this for you. Please note there aren’t any toilets in the church at present. For those that do not want visit the church there will be many plans and photographs available to view. If you would like a private viewing of the church at another time before or after the meeting we would be pleased to arrange this.
Issues re access to the Church:
Bucks County Council recently put in paid for car parking bays in front of our West End Street car bay and the access path to the church. Removal of this will take considerable time and money
The sloping path that runs from where the Halls and Church meet round to the rear access door in West End street cannot be developed for effective wheelchair access because the path cannot be widened due to tree roots and the very steep incline at the top of the path
The main opportunity for wheelchair access will be building access ramps through the garden of the centre that arrive at the porch which is at the top of the current access steps – We are in conversation with WDC about how to design and facilitate this
The September meeting is the launch of the start of centre’s journey and we dedicated to making the centre accessible so it can serve all of our community
