Life, the Universe, and … Elderberries? Einstein once said: ‘A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy?’ Using Einstein’s fruit bowl as a starting point, Stevyn Colgan takes us on a journey of interconnectedness from the very big to the very small and everything in between, peppered with fascinating facts about the universe we live in. And the ones we don’t.

You’ll find out why a dragon fruit is like the big bang, why the sun could be made of bananas and what the centre of the galaxy smells like. And you’ll also come to realise that Douglas Adams had it right all along when he said that everything is fundamentally connected.

Stevyn Colgan is the author of eight books and, for 11 years, was one of the ‘elves’ that write and research the hit BBC TV show QI. He was also part of the writing team that won the Palm D’or for it’s sister show on BBC Radio 4, The Museum of Curiosity. He has appeared at many festivals and events around the world and has appeared on podcasts and radio shows such as Freakonomics, No Such Thing As A Fish, Ex Libris, Josie Longs’s Short Cuts and many more. He is currently taking a break from being a smarty-pants to concentrate on comedy and his first novel A Murder To Die For is being published in January 2018.

This is a free talk hosted by Wycombe Skeptics. A cash bar is available, and everyone is welcome, whatever your views!

Skeptics in the Pub is a place for inquisitive people of all ages to meet and converse in the High Wycombe area.

Skeptics are people who yearn to discover the truth behind extraordinary claims that people or groups may make, this can be in areas of alternative therapies, the paranormal, religion and faith, the afterlife or many other areas of life.

We make no claims to balance, and actively promote science, freedom of expression and secular humanism. This means we often end up talking about superstition, religious fundamentalism, censorship and conspiracy theory.

You are welcome to come along and just sit and listen to others, or if you are braver get stuck right in!
