High Wycombe town centre will be showcased on Saturday 21st May 2011 for High Wycombe’s annual mayor-making event with a history-themed May Fayre for all the family.
Crowds can join in with High Wycombe’s unique tradition of weighing its incoming and outgoing mayors, booing or cheering depending on whether the dignitaries have enjoyed too much good living at the ratepayers’ expense! This will form the focal point of a day of history-themed activities that will be organised by High Wycombe Town Centre Partnership throughout the town.
Visitors will catch a living, breathing glimpse of High Wycombe in the 1600s with the chance to talk to pikemen and musketeers dressed in full period costume and to watch one of their thrilling drill displays.Other attractions will include free ‘Mystery History’ town tours with riveting facts revealed about the town, children’s craft activities, medieval Italian market, living history demonstrations, dance displays, competitions and more.
Calling all schools or performance groups!
Take part in the staged activity and showcase your talents to the town’s dignitaries and members of the public in a unique and exclusive event. Can you do a history linked song, dance, puppet show or story telling or perhaps you can help with costumes or the mystery history tours? Please get in contact if you would like to take part, this is a wonderful opportunity to link it up with other town centre stakeholders and sectors.
Calling all charities!
Do you have innovative ways of raising money that can provide an attraction or contribute to the fun for members of the public at the event? Do you have the means for running some kind of stall to raise money on theme? For example; how about having someone in stocks and ask for a donation to throw a sponge? Or perhaps a cake stall …?
If you have any ideas about contributing please call to discuss on 01494 452705
