Event Description

HARTBEATS AFRICAN DANCE!

>>> We'll be dancing to live djembe and dundun drumming provided by members of the Hartbeats Vitae Drummers. The rhythms and dances come from West Africa where the lead drummer marks the steps and plays a "call" to tell dancers to change moves.

>>> It's fun, exciting, interesting and is a full body experience - great for improving general flexibility, cardio health and muscle strength.

>>> Many people attending will be beginners - so don't be concerned if you're not experienced. We'll step through the moves slowly to begin with.

FUTURE DATES

And then: 5th Nov, 12th Nov, 3rd Dec and 10th Dec

WHAT TO WEAR
West African dancing is usually done barefoot and I highly recommend this. If this isn't possible for you, wear whatever you think you could dance comfortably in. The next best thing would be flat flexible dance pumps.

In terms of clothes it's up to you just as long as it's something you can move in and not get too hot in!

ABOUT ME / HARTBEATS
I've been running a West African drumming class / performance group in High Wycombe and Wendover since 1998. I specialise in djembe & dundun drumming rhythms from West Africa. I also run African drumming activities for many different types of organisations including schools, scout groups, adults with disabilities, local events & businesses e.g. team building. I visit West Africa as frequently as possible and one of the activities I look forward to is studying West Africa dance. Encouraged by members of my drumming group who were also keen to dance, I set up these classes.

The drummers for the dance class are all highly experienced players including Jed Hoile, John Nixon, Joe North, Steven Southall who runs his own African drumming classes at Readipop in Reading and Barry Neilsen who is a professional dundun player for all Hartbeats workshops / classes. It's thanks to the drummers that we're able to enjoy West African dance in High Wycombe!

By the way in case you're interested in drumming too, you can join my Hartbeats Vitae Drummers evening classes any week (Tues in High Wycombe, Weds in Wendover). Just get it touch!

I look forward to dancing with you!
