Business at Bucks New University - ‘New Beginnings’

For many in the world of business and management the end of the summer sees the return to work as a time for reflection about what the future may hold, and what they should be doing in terms of the wider economy and their place in it. ‘What will that economy be like?’ ‘What issues are likely to impact on the organisation or sector I work in?’  ‘How relevant are my skills and my qualifications?’

Bucks New University will be running a special event on the evening of September 13^th to try to answer those questions. Called ‘New Beginnings’, this event will be staged in the iconic Gateway building at the University’s High Wycombe Campus. The event will feature a talk by John Underwood, former head of communications for the Labour Party, journalist and TV presenter, and now executive director of major public relations and marketing company, The Freshwater Group.  In a thought provoking talk  entitled ‘Engagement in the Age of Disconnection’  John will be addressing many of the issues now facing organisations in a world of more astute and critical consumers, with distrust of corporations, and access to transparent social media.

After this refreshments will be available where you can learn about how the University and the professional bodies it works are actively engaged in developing skills for this new age.  Those seeking advice on how this relates to themselves, and their organisations, can speak to representatives of the professional bodies, whilst University staff will also be available to offer careers advice, and talk about the university’s part time and professional courses, as well as its new enterprise programme, that will see students working on live projects in the local business community.
