Event Description

African Beats Community Drum Dance Extravaganza event at the Arts4Every1 centre in High Wycombe:

The evening show has been cancelled

Workshops are still taking place in the daytime between 10.30am and 3.30pm. There are still spaces available in these workshops. Please book your workshop by sending me an email justine@hartbeats.co.uk or calling 07773047684. £12 per workshop (pay by cash when you arrive)

Intermediate djembe with Nahini Doumbia 10.30 – 12.30

Intermediate / advanced djembe with Vieux Bakayoko 10.30 – 12.30

Bolon / krin with Amadou (Jinx) Djighaly 1.30 – 3.30

African dance for all levels with Saskia Bakayoko 1.30 – 3.30

Saskia has been running a dance class at Arts4Every1 for the last 6 weeks. There’ll be a short performance of what they’ve learnt at around 1pm.

We’re really sorry that the evening show which would have featured Hamana’s performance has been cancelled. If the workshop spaces had nearly all been filled, plus more of the evening tickets sold, then the evening event would have gone ahead. Those of you who were intending to come and see Hamana are no doubt as disappointed as we and all the members of Hamana are.

However, Vieux, Nahini, Saskia, and Jinx will all still be running workshops.

Additional info about workshops

Djembe: Goblet shaped hand drum from West Africa. If you don't have a drum, you can rent one for the day from me (Justine Hart) for £2.

African dance: Usually done barefoot and you might want to change into clothes suitable for dancing. Also bring a bottle of water.

Bolon / Krin: The bolon is a West African bass harp played by plucking the strings and tapping the gourd base. A Krin is a log or slit drum played with sticks. Bolons and Krins will be provided in the workshop. Please bring your own if you have one.

This event has been brought to you by African Beats (a non-profit making organisation and Hartbeats African drumming workshops based in High Wycombe www.hartbeats.co.uk
